Bedroom Pods

This garden bedroom pod in Glasgow was built so that the kids could have their own space to play games and have friends over for a sleepover. Many families are choosing to create a teenagers den, like this.

When creating a garden room that is going to be used for sleeping in, even if it is just the occasional sleepover, it needs to be Building Regulation compliant. Not all garden rooms sold are compliant, so you will need to work with a company who is au fait with adapting the design and specification of their buildings to make it compliant.

Outside In Garden Rooms designed and built the bedroom pod. It is 4.2 meters wide and 3 meters deep. A veranda with a canopy above, is 600mm deep, and creates a welcoming entrance to the room.

The Outside In Garden Rooms team are aware that their buildings need to withstand the Scottish climate which can be harsh at times. To this end, they have given additional thought to the detailing of their exteriors.

They make use of EPDM roofing, aluminium doors and windows and Siberian Larch cladding. Nothing too unusual here. What is different is that they fix the Larch cladding with a shadow gap between each board. This not only looks great but allows space for the boards to expand without causing problems.

You may wonder if moisture will enter into the core structure via these shadow gaps. To prevent this happening, a specialist membrane is fitted under the cladding which prevents the ingress of moisture into the core structure.
